Well, this isn't quite how I thought I'd end up starting my classroom blog! I'd had the best of intentions to get it up and running after a week or so of transitioning to a new school, but instead here we are. Oh well, let's make the most of it!
Never in my life did I foresee a future in which schools were shut down for any reason, much less a global pandemic. My heart goes out to my students who are missing classes, my colleagues who are working so hard to get ready for a new way of educating students, the parents who are having to figure out child care while working, and to everyone whose lives are being impacted by COVID-19. These are incredibly difficult times, but we will get through them together. I hope that we'll all come out of this stronger, kinder, and valuing each other more than ever before. As a teaching artist, I cannot help but notice and be humbled by how many different museums, performing groups, artists, and non-profits are offering their classes, performances, and more online for free. This is also an excellent time to dive deep into our interests (mine being theatre and education) and deepening our knowledge. For myself, I hope that I'll be able to use this time to study and practice things I haven't had the chance to explore before. I also look forward to using this time to reflect on my teaching practice. Especially having just joined the Ligon team back in December, this is a great chance for me to evaluate how I've transitioned from teaching high school to teaching middle school. I plan on making those reflections, as well as some of the new things I learn, public here on my classroom blog. How are you going to use this time? Please share things that you're learning, reflections you're having, and observations you're making! While we're social distancing, that doesn't mean we're socially disengaging :) Much love to all, Ms. Gibbs
